I'm a big fan of that kind of music. I have 67 CDs to my collection, so far.

Sure, there are lots of fans, we have some television shows and some events like the "Schlage-Move" here in Germany (Hamburg): http://schlagermove.de/

It is even more popular with the 40 and up-crowd. There are some events where you can hear Schlager everywhere which is (1.) carneval (esp. Cologne, but actually everywhere else as well in Germany) in February plus you can hear Volksmusik during (2.) the whole Oktoberfest in Sep./Oct. in the Munich area.

You can find regular Schlager-parties on colleges and clubs.

This is all about having fun and singing-a-long while getting drunk at least for the younger crowd......

Hope this helped.....

I don't think that this type of musik is very popular here. The younger generation might like Schlagermusik, the older generation are sometimes attracted to something called 'volkstümliche musik', that has nothing in common with true 'Volksmusik' as it is produced by a handfull of low level musicians. Volksmusik in the true sense comes (or better came) from the people and it survived for centuries. Volkstümliche music is shortlived and is not of a high standard.

The same can in most cases be said about 'Schlagers' or 'hits'.

But there is nothing wrong with anyone who likes it, it is just a matter of taste.

It's quite popular with the 50+ crowd here.

Honestly: Only drunks and old people listen to that kind of music here...
